ABSTRACT

Intra uterine device is a safe, effective and reversible method of family planning. Unfortunately, IUD insertion associated with anxiety. The lavender essential oil has anti-anxiety and analgesic effect however it's anti anxiety efficacy before intra uterine device insertion is to be evaluated. The present study was conducted to evaluate the anti-anxiety effect of lavender essential oil before intra uterine device insertion. Total 135 Iranian women candidate for intra uterine device insertion that had eligible criteria were randomly recruited into three lavender, placebo and control group. Data was collected by demographic questionnaire, spiel Berger questionnaire. The candidate apparent and acute anxiety was determined according to 20 questions present in Spiel Berger Questionnaire before and after aromatherapy just before intra uterine device insertion. The 20 questions were given four options including slight, moderate, high and very high with score 20 to 80. The women were given a box containing a cotton ball soaked with three drops of lavender essential oil or sesame oil. The women's were asked to inhale the box for 5 minute from 7 to 10 centimeter from nose. The apparent and acute anxiety was determined in all three groups before and after aromatherapy just before intra uterine device insertion compared to each other. Data analysis was performed by SPSS software and descriptive and analytic statistics methods. The average anxiety score was decreased in lavender group after aromatherapy compared to before aromatherapy [p<0.001] and also as compared to placebo and control groups [p<0.001]. The Results of this study suggest that aromatherapy with inhalation of lavender essential oil is effective as anti- anxiety before IUD insertion

ABSTRACT

Background and Purpose: Fatigue is one of the most common signs in Multiple Sclerosis, affecting the quality of life. Regarding the higher cost of drug therapies and their numerous side effects, the use of complementary and alternative medicines for these patients is on the rise. The present study aimed to determine the effect of aromatherapy massage on fatigue severity in women with Multiple Sclerosis in Isfahan, Iran


Methods and Materials: This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 36 women with Multiple Sclerosis in Isfahan, Iran. Participants were selected through purposeful sampling, and each received a 20-minute Effleurage massage 3 times a week, for 4 consecutive weeks. Data analysis was done in SPSS 16 using paired t-test, Student t-test and ANOVA


Results: The mean score of fatigue severity before intervention was 49, which turned to be 29.37 after intervention. The statistical analysis indicated that there was a significant difference between fatigue severity scores before and after intervention [p<0.0001]


Conclusion: Applying aromatherapy massage for patients with Multiple Sclerosis decreases the fatigue severity

ABSTRACT

Episiotomy is a perineal incision which is the commonest surgical incision in midwifery field. This wound like others need to be cared. Nowadays, using alternative and complementary methods like essential oils which are named aromatherapy have been established as a deserving stance. Essential oils such as lavender compounded of many substances like terponents, mono terponents and linalool which are antimicrobial and pain killer. It seems this substance is very suitable for washing of wounds .So, this research carried out compare the essential oils of lavender in comparison to povidon iodine in repairing of episiotomy. This studying is randomized control trial which is carried out in 120 women. allocated in Povidon Iodine and lavender essential oil groups. At first lavender essential oil 1.5% [Stoeches acae] was prepared by Barij Essence Pharmaceutical Company in distillation method with Olive oil carrier. After child bearing to the educated women about episiotomy care, was proposed to wash wound in sitzbath by Povidon Iodine in one group and with lavender essential oil in another group. After 5th day incision was assessed. The data were analyzed by SPSS soft ware, t-test and X[2]. Data showed that the redness in 5th day reduced significantly [P<0.05]. But, rate of edema increased significantly in lavender group [P<0.001]. There is not difference between two groups for infection, pain, dehiscence. It seems that lavender essential oil is an appropriate alternative instead of Povidon Iodine, because it reduced redness and it doesn't increase infection and dehiscence
